Top Tips For Keeping A Diary

Have you ever wanted to keep a diary?  I have been writing in mine for a few weeks now and I thought it might be fun to share with you some tips.  Keeping a diary is a great way to be yourself, practice writing, or just write plain gibberish.  And the best thing is, nobody will ever read what you write!

1. Pick out the Perfect Diary

This is totally for you to choose. I recommend something with lined pages so you can write.  Locks are fine, but it’s sometimes hard to open them and you can often find yourself losing the key.

2.  Find A Good Hiding place

Especially if you have siblings.  You don’t want people to read your private writing!  So you can hide it under your pillow, under your bed, or in a place that nobody else knows about.

3.  What to Write?

Here’s what I do:

-write the date, so that you know when you wrote it.

-start by listing at least five good things about your day, and at most three bad things about your day.  Base your journal entry off that list.

-Then, write everything about your day.  The things that bothered you, the the emotion you felt, and everything like that.

4.  Illustrations

If you feel it’s necessary or if you just want to, you can draw a picture.  It doesn’t have to be good.  I only do it when I feel I can explain what I’m saying better in drawings than in words.

5.  Extra Tips

-Grammar doesn’t matter-you’re not getting a grade or anything!

-Summarize your day in one word

-Find a quote to help with any struggles or to motivate you

-Write your prayers down

I hope you found these tips useful!  Leave me a comment if you have anything to say and like this post if you want to keep a journal or have a journal!

Bidding you a bookish farewell,

-redheadwithabook
